Engineering Literature for a Living Language Future

I am Will J. MacQuoid, a writer and artist working at the intersection of literature, language, structure, and imagination. My work is driven by a belief that modern creativity does not need to simplify the world—it can embrace complexity, precision, and depth, while remaining accessible, human, and alive.

After more than twenty years of working as an artist and writer across multiple disciplines, I made a conscious decision to dedicate myself fully to writing. That commitment began in earnest in the autumn of 2023, when I started work on my first novel, Some Of The Life Of Daisy J. Beecham—a state-of-the-art modern period drama that blends domestic realism, technology, and long-form storytelling. The novel is being developed with care and intention and is scheduled for completion in autumn 2026, with publication planned through Olympia Publishers.

Alongside the novel, my early published works establish what I describe as engineered literature—writing that is carefully constructed, formally aware, and unafraid to innovate. Titles such as Poems Of 2023, Poems Of Insight, and Adventures Of The Soft Toys introduce new formats, contemporary subject matter, and a balance between clarity and experimentation across poetry and children’s literature.

A significant part of my recent work has focused on language itself—how it sounds, how it is learned, and how it survives across centuries. Projects such as Sounding the Scop explore Old English (i.e., Beowulf) not as a dead academic artefact, but as a living, performable language. Through phonetic engineering and modern transliteration, these works aim to make early English literature readable, speakable, and meaningful for contemporary readers—from students to scholars. Sounding the Scop and Beowulf—Sounded and Understood are available on Amazon worldwide and through other retailers.

Throughout my practice, I also collaborate thoughtfully with artificial intelligence as part of the creative process. AI is used as a tool for exploration, modelling, and refinement, and occasionally as an experimental creative agent within clearly defined artistic boundaries. All work remains guided by human authorship, intent, and responsibility, with AI serving as a means to extend and integrate—not replace—creative possibility.

Looking ahead, my work will continue to span genres and forms. Future projects include further poetry collections, expanded children’s literature, speculative and science-fiction writing, adult faction, and continued research-driven literary experimentation. I prefer not to over-announce—many ideas mature best in quiet—but the direction is clear: literature that evolves with the world rather than trailing behind it.

I look forward to meeting readers through events, signings, and conversations in bookshops and literary spaces, and—most importantly—to continuing this journey with those who are curious about where written creativity can go next.

This is not just about publishing books—it is about engineering literature for a living language future.
